Yoga Holiday

yoga and local walks.

“A really exceptional yoga teaching. Felt it deepened my practice, I learned new things, and the sessions renewed my love of yoga. Lisan is a wonderful teacher. The closing session was very special. I also loved the walking with Lisa! Thanks to Lisa’s knowledge, love of the Mani and friendships, we discovered walks and came across special people and places. Practising the yoga and meeting together at such a beautiful centre so well run by Kerry and Wendy was also lovely. Their care and hospitality, the delicious food, and discussions around the table also made for a very nurturing and interesting holiday.'     Clare B, UK.

Longing for a week of inspiration, sunshine, beautiful impressions and rejuvenation?
Join Lisan and Lisa for a wonderful week of yoga and walking!

This week we’ll combine gentle but deep, hatha yoga with 2 guided walks and 2 visits to authentic mountain villages where we’ll  dine out, meet the locals and enjoy authentic traditional Greek cuisine.  The guided walks are from a couple of hours on the monday to one whole day on wednesday and will lead us along the gorges, mountains and ancient kalderimi. Here you can discover the real Greece, explore the surrounding foothills and the ancient Byzantine sites. If we’re lucky we’ll even be dancing in the oliveyard! And off course there will be plenty of time for you to just relax and recharge your batteries.

Gentle and deep hatha yoga

We all carry tension in the body from stress and old holding patterns that may not longer serve us but that we are not aware of. During our practise Lisan will encourage you to connect to your subtle core in order to start a proces of undoing. Through listening to the body, through stretching, softening and focussing on opening, we can connect with a deeper sense of inner peace that so many of us seem to long for. The classes are suited for both beginners and more experienced practitioners. Meditation and pranayama are woven into the morning and evening classes.

Morning classes are more yang and dynamic oriented. We will begin each session with taking some time to quiet the mind, by focusing on the present moment, becoming aware of the breath and creating space between the breaths. Then we will move into some somatic movements to wake up the body followed by a well rounded mix of hatha yoga poses. At the end of the class we return to the same quiet meditative state again, which of course, we never really left.

The evening classes are more yin and restorative orientated to nourish and stimulate our organs and balance the flow of energy in the body. The poses target the deeper connective tissues, the ligaments and the joints. Because the practise is slow, it helps develop our inner listening. The restorative part offers the body relief from tension and stiffness and allow for the experience of deep relaxation. Also, for the purpose of deep relaxation we’ll practise some real yummie Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep.

       yoga, meditation holidays in Greece

Lisan Bremmers is from the Netherlands, currently living in Sweden where she runs her own yoga studio. Together with her partner Jan she offers yoga and meditation retreats from their beautiful old farmhouse in the Swedish countryside. www.hooyoga.com

Lisan’s experience of yoga is that once we start to really inhabit our body and awaken our sensitivity, we start to connect with ourselves and with others from a much deeper place of joy and confidence. It is the tapping into this ongoing process, that she likes to share with others.

At an early age Lisan came into contact with the teachings of Gurdjief and Ouspensky, later she became interested in the non-dual teachings of the Advaita Vedanta tradition and Buddhism. Lisan is a 200 hr certified Hatha yoga teacher trained at the Yandara Yoga institute in Mexico, she is also certified in Medical Yoga through IMY in Stockholm and in Restorative Yoga with Marla Meenakshi Joy. She continues to take workshops with various teachers and is inspired by teachers like Jill Satterfield and Tara Brach.

Some more reviews of Lisan's yoga holiday at Spirit of Life.

'I really like Lisan’s style of teaching. She isn’t ‘putting us through the yoga paces’ but offers more of an exploration of postures. It felt good to slow down our practice and talk together about and feel the benefits. I love the way Lisan shares her understanding and enjoyment. I think that both the Spirit of Life and Lisan and Lisa engendered a real sense of belonging. So I was only there a week but it felt like being part of something, a little community. The food was absolutely scrummy, I felt rested and happy - what more could I want?!

''Perfect balance of time for Yoga, eating (great food) walking, socialising and just hanging out (in the best possible way, with charming seaside villages and wonderful beaches at a few minutes walk). The walks with Lisa were among the most beautiful I have ever done. Anywhere! And what a big impact it can have to do yoga like this twice a day for one week. (even for one like me who normally never does yoga)   Lisan really made me sense and understand what my body needs, in a very gentle, easy and yet effective way. I feel rejuvinated and am actually going home with a desire to continue doing yoga!

What a beautiful week, what a beautiful people (both the locals and our group), what a beautiful place! Thank you Lisa, Lisan, Kerry and Wendy for an unforgetable vacation.

What a wonderful week of yoga and hiking! The whole week has made me more calm and aware.
I had earlier experienced a more physical form of yoga; the yin yoga in the evening was new to me and proved to be very good for me. I learned how to wake up the body and soul in the morning in a gentle way, and experienced the feeling of becoming one with the body and soul. Lisan, I am so impressed of your knowledge, your hospitality and warmth. THANK YOU!

I've enjoyed several yoga holidays in different places but spirit of life is now my favourite. Kerry & Wendy have created a place with a magical quality based on a combination of ancient land and customs, deep love of Nature and respect for yoga and healing. Lisan is a wise and generous yoga teacher and gave us a wonderful week of practice and inspiration. Thank you to everyone involved.

Lisan has a wonderful ability to lead us into deep relaxation and to let us proceed at our own pace during the week. Lisa took us on two gorgeous walks, she knows a lot about the area and obviously enjoyes sharing her love for it's beauty with others. Altough quite stressed upon arrival, after one week I feel both rested and strong again. Thank you so much Lisan and Lisa!
